I’m Angeles, the program assistant for Blackshear Elementary School. I’m a senior and a first-generation college student majoring in industrial engineering, graduating in May 2023 and I chose my major because I love learning about optimizing processes in various settings. When I was younger, I enjoyed watching “How It’s Made” (a series that presented how things in our daily lives were produced/manufactured) however, I didn’t become interested in my major until my last year in high school when a teacher introduced me to the engineering field. As I learned more about it, I realized that it was something I wanted to pursue, and I continue to be excited about the path I chose. I got to learn many skills and gain new professional experiences throughout my time at the University of Houston and during the mentorship program, I want to continue my professional development. I hope to learn about navigating the workplace like networking, building and maintaining relationships, how to continue learning new skills in the field, and overall succeeding as an employee to advance in my career path.
