My name is Asfaq Bhuiya but I usually prefer ‘Ash’. I’m a Junior Mechanical Engineering Student at the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston and also a STEM Mentor for St. Elmo Brady at Burnet Elementary School. I chose Mechanical Engineering as I was very fascinated by the working of mechanical objects or even machines. This curiosity that first instilled in me as a child now serves as my drive to educate myself and strive to achieve success in my field. Which brings me to why I wanted to become a STEM Mentor and that is to instill a similar sense of curiosity within the minds of these young geniuses. I believe introducing the kids of Burnet Elementary to the concepts of science and how it expands to careers in the STEM field is an experience which will play a vital role in their future and in my career as well whether it be trying to connect with new people, secure internships, understand corporate training concepts and being able to teach and present them as well.
